You're So Lucky
Jim and I were sitting by the front door on a very slow afternoon, and Linda was leaning against a vehicle just a few feet away from us when she recognized a vehicle pulling up to the front door. She said, "Oh no. These kids are so upside-down they can't buy anything. They are going to waste my time."
I said, "Linda, if that is the case, just put them on the money and see if anything changed with their status instead of spending hours with them like you usually do."
So this young couple walked in, and Linda gave her usual bright and cheerful professional greeting. She does her job very well and is one of the two top salespeople for our dealership. After a couple of minutes, Jim and I heard Linda exclaim, "Well, guys, last week when you were in, you were so upside-down in your vehicle, without any money down, we couldn't trade cars. Has anything changed about that?”
One of them piped up, "Yeah, I know. That is why we are here. My uncle just passed away and left us some money, so we can make that trade now."
"Really," Linda said, "You’re so lucky!"
Jim and I just looked at each other with our eyes bulging out and our jaws dropping.
"Well, I don't know, Linda. We kind of liked my uncle," was the response.
Jim and I laughed so hard, I think we both cried. Linda did deliver the vehicle that afternoon.
